War crimes trial a continuous process: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Friday war crimes trial is a continuous process and the war crimes suspects would be brought to justice when they will be found.
The war crimes trial is indispensable to establish a democratic, secular and peaceful society as well as to build a prosperous nation which will be free from hunger and poverty to materialise the dream of the martyrs of the Liberation War, the premier said.
The PM was addressing the 34th General Meeting of Bangla Academy on the academy premises where she along with Nobel Laureate Prof Amartya Sen was conferred honorary fellowship this year.
Hasina said her government is making relentless efforts to reestablish the glory of the Bengali nation they earned through their supreme sacrifice since Language Movement in 1952.
"As a nation we are the only people in the world who had to make supreme sacrifice to establish the right to speak in our mother tongue and earn independence," she said, adding that Bangla Academy is a source of inspiration for the nation in all its movements.
"So, I'm working for the country with only one goal - to realise the dream of the nation - for which millions of people and the Father of the Nation made their sacrifice," she said.
"We are pressing for making Bangla as a state language of the United Nations," the premier said.
She urged all Bengali people across the world to extend their support to this end.
Receiving the fellowship, the PM thanked the authorities of the Bangla Academy for giving her the honour with Amartya Sen. "I think I'm a simple Bengali woman, who never thought of receiving this great honour," she said.
National Prof A F Salauddin Ahmed, who chaired the function, said Sheikh Hasina became as the symbol of Bengali culture, heritage and stride of Bengali people making their constant efforts to protect their dignity as an independent state.
Hasina extended her sincere thanks to Bangla Academy, grammar experts of Bangladesh and West Bengal of India as well as Kolkata Academy for completing the compilation of Bangla Grammar.
Terming Bangla Academy as the epicenter of practice and research for Bangla language, literature and culture and Bengali nationalism, Hasina assured of the Academy to provide necessary support from the government for its further development.
Amartya Sen termed Bangla as a wealthy language and said the power of the language to accommodate word, sound and expression is very praiseworthy than other language.
Bangladesh is progressing fast in many areas, including education, practice of intellectuality, languages and culture as well as science and knowledge, he said, adding that the progress of women is particularly a tremendous success for the country.
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan spoke, among others, on the occasion.
